Lecture at the Game Developers' Conference
At the 2002 GDC my lecture topic was "Why We Shouldn't Make Games," a deliberately provocative title that I hoped would generate interest. I got my wish; there was a pretty good turnout.
The point of the lecture was that the game paradigm is a limiting one, a straitjacket for our creativity. I discussed what the word "game"connotes to the hearer and how that affects the way the interactive entertainment industry is perceived.
