Lecture at the Ars Electronica Festival

Linz, Austria

Ars Electronica is a center for electronic and computerized art in Linz, Austria. Every year they hold a festival, with a conference and prizes for the best new artwork in a variety of media. This was my first visit, and it was wonderful, a real eye-opener. I got to see all kinds of artworks, most of them installations of various sorts, making use of computers and electronics to express aesthetic ideas. I also gave a lecture at one Tool’s Life: I touch a metal tool and its inner life is revealed in its shadow. This garden fork grows vines.of their conferences, on the subject of architecture in game design-- not software architecture, but real architecture, buildings and landscapes. The lecture was named "The Construction of Ludic Spaces". I also wrote it up as a Designer's Notebook column called "The Role of Architecture in Videogames".
